In this week’s episode of KUWTK, we’re given a sneak preview of the birth of Kim’s skinwear line “Kimono” (which yes was cringeworthy to watch knowing what happens next), Khloe’s prom experience with longtime fan Narbeh, and Kris’ attempts at dealing with inappropriate OJ rumors and the anniversary of the death of her very close friend Nicole. Before we get into all of it, a quick Happy Birthday shoutouts to two of our faves: Kris and Kendall!! Now let’s get into the details with this week’s episode awards:

Funniest Part of the Episode… Goes to Kendall?!

Often, the funniest moments on the show come from Khloe and Scott (and sometimes Kris) being bored and deciding they want to screw around with other members of the family. This episode opens with the usual suspects Khloe, Scott and Kris hanging out, bored and calling Kylie and Kendall with the serious topic of attending a circle jerk all together. They first call Kylie (Ky$$$$!!! In Khloe’s phone – one of my favorite pastimes is looking at their cell phone contacts) to which she laughs and says of course she’ll be there. But the funnier call comes when they dial Kendall and invite her to a circle jerk. They have Kendall explain what a circle jerk is to Kris and then tell her it’s at 3pm at the community center. The first funny response is when Kendall responds “Okay but let me know because I don’t want to take my makeup off and then go back out” as if they’re seriously going to do this and doesn’t want to have to go through the process of reapplying makeup. But the funniest moment comes when she says “I’m not coming to the Hidden Hills just for a 3pm circle jerk.”

The whole interaction was truly hilarious and this might be the funniest thing Kendall has ever said. I love getting small insights into her personality since we don’t usually get much from her. P.S. If you all haven’t seen the footage from Kendall’s 24th Halloween birthday party, with basically every cool and famous young person, then I highly recommend you seek it out.

Most Contrived Storyline

Khloe decides to go to prom with her long time fan Narbeh. He’s Armenian (just like the Kardashians) and has always been a huge supporter of the family, and particularly Khloe. He asked Khloe to his Prom and she decided to go since she had never been to prom herself. (Kylie did this too with a fan on her one season show Life of Kylie). The best part of this segment was Khloe explaining why she has never gone to prom – she went to Marymount High School and didn’t do well there both socially and academically, so she forged her parents signatures to enroll in homeschool ( wild that she got away with this). But because she was homeschooled for 10th through 12th grade, she never went to prom. So she decides to go but realizes she needs some liquid courage to get through the night – and then proceeds to worry the entire time that she’s ruining Narbeh’s prom experience.

I just thought this was so ridiculous – in what world would she think that showing up at Narbeh’s prom, where he tells her that he suffered anxiety and depression in high school, and where she was always a symbol of strength for him, would ruin his experience? Not only was it probably the highlight of his life, but EVERYONE at that prom was beyond hyped that one of the most famous women in the world was at THEIR prom. Narbeh sends her flowers and a thank you note and she again expresses her sincere relief that she didn’t ruin his experience. I don’t know if this was her pretending to be humble or cover up that she felt incredibly awkward the whole time (who wouldn’t; she’s 34 and they’re all obviously 17 or 18) but it confused me. It felt disingenuous, which is something I never think about Khloe because she’s always so thoughtful and considerate to other people and at the end of the day it was still so nice of her to attend.

The What Could’ve Been Award

This episode takes us through the lead up to Kim’s launch of her Skinwear line that she explains has been in the works for 10 years. For a long time, she was making the skinwear just for herself and finally decided to launch publicly. Kim takes us through the filming of the marketing campaign for the launch. She explains how her first stylist job was styling Kris for her infomercial jobs and thought it would be funny to call back to that time by having all the ads for Kimono be old-style infomercials.

Kim is usually involved in every single step of the process for anything she is involved in but can’t attend the Kimono shoots because she’s going to Costa Rica with Kanye and the kids (and Kourt and Scott) for North’s birthday. With no Kim to supervise, we see Kylie and Khloe trying to carry out Kim’s vision but the best part is Kris, Kyle Richards and Lisa Rinna teaming up for their shoot. Kyle and Lisa are doing this purely as a favor for Kim and the whole experience is hilarious. Since Kim isn’t there, Kris takes the lead and starts by saying “you’re not going to see any rolls here, the only Rolls you’ll see is parked in my garage.” The girls lose it and it’s pretty much everything to see everyone’s friendship. Lisa Rinna lets loose and takes off her cheetah dress to show off the Skinwear underneath. They just look like they’re having the best time and it’s so sad that all this amazing material was lost because the Kimono scandal. It’s also crazy seeing just how many people were involved in this whole process with Kim and yet NO ONE had the foresight to NOT name the line Kimono.

Cutest Kid Moment

Since the last trip the family went on to Costa Rica, North has been expressing how badly she wants to go back, so for North’s birthday, Kim decides to take the kids, Kanye, Scott and Kourtney and their kids, and North’s best friend and her family to Costa Rica. (Side note: in the confessional Kim is explaining to the crew who is going and when she says “Scott and Kourtney” she follows it up with “not what you think” implying she knows that everyone is going to be like OMG Scott and Kourtney back together. It just really validates all of us shipping them back together – I think the family does too.) But at the dinner table one night, Reign says that he wants to pray and leads grace at the table with pray that we have good dreams with butterflies in it, and don’t get any bad guys in it and just get superheroes. Jesus Amen.” It’s THE CUTEST moment ever and just made me want to squeeze him. I love these kids.

Saddest Moment of the Week

Kris explains that June always makes her really sad because it always reminds her of Nicole Brown (OJ Simpson’s wife, who was famously murdered). Kris, Nicole and Faye Resnick were truly best friends from the 70s when Kris first met Rob Kardashian. Kris is telling MJ how a news outlet asked Kris and Faye if they wanted to do an interview about Nicole – at first they both agreed but realized they only had agreed to support the other and that neither of them actually wanted to do it, so they backed out of the interview. Kris explains that they didn’t want to do the interview because what they wanted to talk about would be completely different than what the media and general public would want them to talk about. Kris and Faye want to remember Nicole for the person she was when she was alive and all the great memories they shared with her, not the darkness of her death. The two go to a diner they used to go with Nicole to so they can celebrate her life on her birthday and reminisce. Faye says that the last time she was even at that diner was when the three of them actually went together when Nicole was alive. Kris describes every moment of that lunch, down to Nicole’s order of whitefish salad with spinach and a margarita. The waiter comes by and says that it’s the diner’s 30th anniversary and they would be using the old menus from 30 years ago. Kris and Faye take it as a sign.

It was so sad listening to them talk about how desperately they want to just remember Nicole for who she was and that it’s devastating that she’s only remembered for her death. It felt like such a genuine moment and I felt so hard for Kris and Faye, but it also seems like they were doing their best to heal.

Badass Moment of the Week

Kris often gets a lot of heat for her business-savvy ways and her ability to pull the strings when it comes to scandals and news cycles surrounding the family drama. How many times have we all seen the “The devil works hard but Kris Jenner works harder” meme? Approximately 10,000 times. This week, we see Kris deal with the bullshit rumor that came out from one of OJ’s supposed old managers that OJ fucked Kris so hard back in the day that she had to be sent to the hospital. This was clearly not true and with the anniversary of Nicole’s death, Kris was honestly horrified that the media was giving the story life. She decided to sue the Daily Mail over the article because of all the subsequent deaths (Nicole and Rob) the story was in bad taste and the lie had to be revoked. It was just interesting to see Kris work – she said “I sued the Daily Mail today” so casually to MJ and Scott. Like hell yes you did Kris, you’re a BOSS.

Honorable Mention: Most Definitely NOT Worth the Tea

Kim is telling her family that Jonathan recently saw OJ at the restaurant Prime 112. She tells them that Jonathan was at the restaurant when a waiter came up to him to say that OJ had a private room in the back and wanted to meet Jonathan. OJ apparently wanted to meet Jonathan knowing that he was friends with the Kardashians. OJ requested to take pictures with Jonathan and told him to send the pictures to Kim and the girls and say how proud OJ is of all of their success. Scott, saying what we’re all thinking, can’t believe that this happened. Like how is OJ just out in public, getting private rooms at fancy restaurants and then demanding a meeting with Jonathan freaking Cheban aka Foodgod (will never get over this). Why does he want contact with the Kardashians?? The whole thing felt so eerie and kind of disrespectful – I just felt so uncomfortable with this story as did Kim, Scott and the others, apparently. WTF OJ.
