In this week’s episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s, we’re taken into how Kim and her team dealt with the Kimono backlash, how Khloe deals (or maybe doesn’t deal) with her OCD, and of course, another great Kim vs. Kourtney feud. Let’s get into details in the episode awards:

The Why is Kourtney So Annoying Sometimes Award?

North and Penelope are best friends and have birthdays very close to one another. For obvious reasons, they usually celebrate their birthdays together. This year, Kim and Kourt decided to throw them a Candy Land theme party. However, Kourtney is OBSESSED with being healthy. She keeps saying that it’s not on-brand for her to be promoting sugar and chemical filled candies and doesn’t want her kids, or other kids, to think that eating that crap is okay. Kim essentially tells Kourtney she’s being insane and says they cannot have a candy themed birthday party for their kids without candy, especially because everyone will fully be expecting candy. Kourt continues to say that they can have organic cotton candy and candy that isn’t as blatantly bad for you, but when Kim asks for examples, Kourtney has no answers. She clearly did no research and is just being difficult because she’s now convinced herself that this is the only way to live. Kourt then has the most ridiculous line of the episode when talking to Kim about the candy scenario “it’s such a dated vibe”, referring to Kim’s desire for candy at the Candy Land party. She referred to candy as a dated vibe multiple times, and called her logic peak 2019 galaxy brain. Kim’s adept comeback was “it’s called candy land not gluten-free land.” Maybe that was peak 2019 galaxy brain… either way Kourtney was completely out of touch here and her twitter presence during the show retweeting how thankful people were for shedding light on the unhealthiness of candy confirmed that she did not think she was wrong whatsoever.

The Most Frustrated Kardashian Employee Award

Related to the Candy Land debacle, Kim and Kourtney hired party planner Sharon to help plan the party. As the two literally could not decide about whether or not the Candy Land party would have candy or not, this poor party planner was being jerked around. She clearly just wants to do a good job, because the Kardashians have given her a lot of business in the past, and I’m sure she wants more business moving forward so she doesn’t want to make an enemy out of either sister. She calls Kourtney essentially begging her to just give her an answer as the party is now only days away. Kourtney says not to listen to Kim and just to do everything that she says. Scott, sitting next to Kourtney as she’s telling Sharon this, says “been there.” Just another great Scott moment, in an episode too Scott-light.

So cheers to Scott, and second-hand apologies to Sharon. Kim did eventually get her way and made zero compromises; Kim even admitted there was way too much candy at the party and felt the need to apologize to parents for the sugar rush. Typical Kim.

Best Insight Into Dealing with a Huge Controversy

(via Skims)

Last episode, we got a peak into the marketing process of Kimono, Kim’s skinwear line. It was so entertaining to see Kris, Kyle Richards and Lisa Rinna dress up and screw around as a commercial for Kimono. However, as we all know, this was going to come crashing down around Kim. Once she made an announcement about the name, the internet went insane, criticizing her for cultural appropriation. We see her speaking to Scott, trying to figure out if it’s just a few really loud people on the internet who are yelling at her, because people always criticize her no matter what she does, or if it was more serious and widespread. She talks about just how many people approved the name and didn’t say anything to her about it. Which makes you think about how many people around her just say “yes” to everything. It’s hard from the outside looking in to not think how could she not have seen this coming, but we see that she, the family, and her team truly were shocked. She describes the process of what it would take if they decide the name really has to be changed. Hundreds of thousands of garments were already made, with the Kimono label printed on each of the items. We see the detail and the thought that went into this and again, it’s nearly impossible to understand why nobody noticed the issue. Kim receives a letter from the Mayor of Kyoto, asking her not to follow through with the name and explaining to her why the Kimono is so important to Japanese culture. After she reads the letter, she knows she 100% has to change the name, if she wasn’t completely positive about it beforehand. We then see her poll her staff and family asking about new names like KKWear, but she ultimately lands on Skims. I think Skims is a better name anyways. It was just such an interesting insight into the whole controversy and how so many people either were oblivious to the potential conflict or didn’t feel comfortable speaking up. I love when we get insight into the intricacies of the Kardashian businesses and brands.

The Khloe Is The Best Kind of Crazy Award

In this episode, we witnessed just how insane Kim and Kourtney can be (not out of the ordinary), and of course, Khloe ended up being the peacemaker between the two. Khloe constantly ends up in the middle of the two of them fighting and has to act as the mediator. While we get to witness Khloe be the sane one out of the three of them, she of course faces her own idiosyncrasies, with her own OCD mainly on display in this episode. Kris goes over to Khloe’s house, where Khloe is on her hands and knees trying to clean scuffs out of her brand new floors. During a meeting, Khloe can’t concentrate because she notices a mark on the wall. Kris knows Khloe has always been super clean and organized, but recently, Khloe has taken it to another level and Kris is concerned. Kris convinces Khloe to see an exposure therapist, who tries to help people understand and cope with things that are out of your control (there is a lot of potential psychology here about how Khloe may feel out of control in her personal life cc: Tristan and thus feels the need to make sure her house is perfection, but I don’t think I need to completely psychoanalyze someone I don’t actually know). The therapist comes to Khloe’s house and starts messing things up. She moves a book so that it’s not lined up with all the other books, moves an orange in her bowl in her kitchen so that not everything matches, reorganizes her color-coded refrigerator and then asks Khloe to remain calm and not fix anything for an hour. Khloe tells the woman she’s never been so excited for someone to leave her house so that she can put things back the way they were; the woman laughs and says that’s not the first time she’s heard this request.

We see that Khloe actually did take some of the therapist’s advice to heart as later in the episode, we see Khloe mess up her perfectly organized shoes in her closet and then set a timer and meditiate. Khloe gives the most relatable line of the episode: “the longest seconds on earth are the ones while doing a plank, waiting for the microwave and now waiting to fix my shoes.” Kris says she’s proud of her for actually trying to deal with her anxiety about organization. It was such a stark contrast between Khloe’s relative insanity in the episode when compared to Kourt and Kim. I love Khloe.

Bonus: Second Place for the Most Frustrated Kardashian Staff Member

At the end of the episode, Kim, Kourt, Khloe, Kris, Scott and Corey are all having dinner and talking about Khloe’s progress. Kris asks if it would bother Khloe if she spilled food on the table, and purposefully drops a chunk of pasta on the table. Khloe responds that yes it bothers her but it would bother anyone because a rational human being doesn’t just spill food and make a mess for no good reason. It eventually escalates into a full on food fight, culminating in Kim dumping a vat of iced tea on Kris and smashing a cupcake in her face. Looking around Khloe goes “who’s going to clean all this up?” It felt like an unspoken thing that obviously none of them would be doing the cleaning. I feel bad for that poor Kardashian employee who had to clean up the massive amounts of food they threw all over the place. (Side note: yes, they received heat for wasting the food in a food fight).
