In the second part of the season 17 opening two-part episode, we are treated to a classic Kourtney / Kim blowup, Kourtney’s 40th birthday and an insight into Kanye’s Sunday Service performance at Coachella. As always, I’ll break down the episode by giving out episode awards:
Khloe’s Most Human Moment
Following up on last week’s episode where Tristan confronted Kanye about using “Runaway” as the theme song to all of the Khloe-Tristan drama last season, we see Khloe start to cry and get upset with Kim and Kanye for bringing this all up at True’s first birthday. Obviously not the place or time, but I thought Khloe’s anger was slightly misplaced – it was Tristan who brought it up not Kanye or Kim. Khloe rectified that this episode and explained that she understood it was definitely not Kanye or Kim’s fault and that it proves Tristan’s total lack of respect for her. We see Khloe receive countless texts from Kanye apologizing to which Khloe of course accepts and tells him that it’s not his fault and she feels bad that Tristan made him feel so uncomfortable. Later in the episode, she also laments how hard it is to co-parent. She’s had great role models who were able to effectively co-parent (Kris & Rob and now Kourtney & Scott). Khloe said she understood that it takes time but it’s incredible to get such vulnerable insight from her.
Most Typical Kim / Kourtney Dynamic
Sorry Kim, I love you but you were so mean to Kourtney this episode. We’ve seen this attitude from you before regarding Kourtney and Khloe’s style (never forget the outfit in Japan) but this episode was more over-the-top than usual. Kourtney seems overwhelmed by the expectations of needing to have everything so perfectly together, especially her look for her 40th. Kim goes over to Kourtney’s to help Kourt pick out an outfit for the party, which essentially involves Kim telling Kourtney that everything she picked out was ugly and disgusting leading to quotes including “you can’t just go looking mediocre like this” “you’re not a fucking peacock” and “you need to be sexier.” Not exactly encouraging feedback Kim, cmon. This plants a seed of annoyance in Kourtney that we see blow up later in the episode.
Kendall Appears!!
We finally get to have Kendall in a few scenes. That’s all – Kendall gets an award just for showing up.
Best Insight into How the Kardashians Run Their Lives
In this episode, the drama stemming from Kim and Kourtney also involves their respective stylists (Dani and Danielle). We see Kim at a fitting with Mugler, a designer in Miami, for the Met Gala. Kim explains how she’s been traveling to and from Miami to cultivate this relationship with the designer. Kim then calls Kourtney to ask for her opinion on the dress in front of all the designers and stylists – Kourtney proceeds to say how much she hates it and thinks she’s dressing up either as Nicki Minaj or for Halloween.
This obviously embarrasses Kim and she apologizes on behalf of Kourt to the designer. This is where it gets good… the designer then says that he’s surprised Kourtney didn’t get the vibe because Kourtney’s stylist has been calling and emailing him saying Kourtney wants an outfit from him… PLUS Kourtney’s stylist had recently taken a bunch of looks that were meant for Kim. This enrages Kim – Kim is already prone to think literally everyone in the world is copying her so when insulted and thinking Kourtney is copying / stealing her looks and potentially jeopardizing a relationship she’s spent so much time nurturing, she loses it. She calls Kourtney to yell at her to which Kourtney then brings in the stylists to explain how it’s not her fault and regardless, their styles are SOOO different. Even if they wore something similar, the style’s would still be completely opposite. She goes as far to say “If my stylist brought me something Kim would wear, I would send it back” which lol is kind of savage. It was so interesting to hear how their fashion works – they stylists do essentially everything for them and act on the respective sister’s interests. We always see them trying on clothes and different outfits but to get some insight into how that all comes to be is so fascinating.
Kourtney’s Bitchiest Moment
When Kourtney and Kim are on the phone arguing about who copied who or who’s designer did what, Kourtney starts to shit on Danielle, Kim’s stylist. Khloe tries to warn Kourtney that Danielle is in the room and to be nice but Kourt instead goes “I don’t care if Danielle is in the room… hi Danielle.” It’s just so classic Kourtney giving no-fucks. I love it.
Kim’s Most Vicious Moment
Kim and Kourtney get into a giant fight over text. We then get an incredible scene where Kim is explaining the fight to Kris and Kourtney is explaining the fight to Khloe (again, such typical Kardashian dynamics I love it). In the middle of the fighting, Kim calls Kourtney a “fucking fake humanitarian hoe” basically saying Kourtney does nothing to better the world while Kim is out here trying to better both herself (law school) and the world (freeing people wrongly imprisoned in the criminal justice system). This just hit SO low and was SO savage. Kourtney starts crying in the car to Khloe saying she can’t handle all the stress, especially in light of her 40th.
Best Kim Troll
Kim offers Kourtney a peace offering of a vintage Gianni Versace dress made of half-mesh and half-chainmail for Kourt to wear to her 40th. Kourtney accepts the peace offering and after the party everyone exclaims how much better a mood Kourtney was in. When we see flashes of the party, we get glimpses into the two best things at the party: the napkins that say “Kim, there’s people that are dying” and Don Julio with Kourtney’s face on it that says “most interesting to look at” which is a callback to Kim calling Kourtney the least interesting to look at in the family. Just elite Kim trolling and I loved it.
Best View Into How Casually Famous the Kardashians Are

Kanye’s passion for his music and his fashion line is unmatched. It’s actually impressive how in almost every scene and episode someone somewhere is wearing Yeezy. We get a quick insight into his Sunday Service performance at Coachella on Easter which is to die for and of course him, Kim and the family, and the entire chorus he sings with are all wearing Yeezy’s. Need to buy a $300 oversized purple t-shirt right now.
